I remember when my kids were small and even into high school, my husband and I would dance in the kitchen to the radio before they all went off to school.  It is one of my fondest memories of raising my kids.  Our daughter would stand on her dad's feet as he danced around the kitchen.  The boys would dance with me until we were all ready for the day.  What a wonderful memory.  That is why the kitchen is the heart of any home.  Memories are made there.  Lives are built there.
Come with me and let us dance in the kitchen

Simply put I don't cook

Have you given thought to what you would describe yourself in the kitchen?  Are the "Simply put I don't cook" type? Using one pan for a stir fry could be the answer. Or would you say you are "Semi Homemade"? Buy rotisserie chicken, frozen noodles and you are on your way to down home country cooking.  How about "I was a chef in my former life"? New tricks and tools might be what you are after.  If you are any of these or somewhere in between I bet you are looking for easier ways to cook, budget friendly ingredients and ideas to get in and out of the kitchen fast and still have a sense of purpose and peace while in the kitchen.

I have found that having the right equipment and tools, organizing your space and having a plan will make all of your cooking dreams come true.  Don't be overwhelmed.  Start with a 3 ring binder some dividers, (used ones work just fine), a pen and some paper.

Start by writing down how you see yourself in the kitchen.  In and out? No time?  Love to cook?  Make a list or come by my website and I have one already made out for you.  www.TheKitchenKoach.net. Here a few questions to get you started:
Are you a healthy eater:____sometimes healthy:_____like to learn how to eat healthy:___

What makes you crazy about cooking, planning or preparing food?

If you could change one thing about food what would it be?

When you get your thoughts down on paper you will find it easier to make a plan and get started. The Kitchen Koach helps you put more pizzazz in your skillet so stop by again for a visit and I will share some great tips with you.

Sugar: Are You an Addict? - Chef's Blade

Sugar: Are You an Addict? - Chef's Blade
Sugar has been a friend and enemy of mine for many years.  I have tried to cut it out for my families well being and still  am having to find ways to heal the effects of too much.  A little is ok but the truth that you have talked about in your article makes so much sense and I will be looking at it from a different angle now.  Learning how to eat healthy without the use of sweetner's is an ongoing journey and I will be adding to my Kitchen Koaching resources for inexpensive ways to lessen our addiction.

Let's get started Dancing in the Kitchen

1st blog ever 8.8.12

This is my first blog so I am going to just jump right in and see where it takes me. I appreciate any feedback or suggestions that will help me to navigate this new world.
You see I am a Kitchen Koach with an entrepreneurial spirit. Cooking is my passion and know that it isn't for everyone. There are so many different kitchen practices and I have a desire to help others to find their dance in the kitchen.

I have loved cooking since I could stand at the counter with my Mom and Grandmother. My first test came one Sunday morning when I was about 10 and I made lemon tree muffins, recipe follows, and they were a hit. I did them all by self while my family was still asleep. It was spring time and the day was perfect for baking. What a surprise when my mom, dad and sisters woke to the smell of fresh muffins. That was the day that I knew I had found my calling. In my high school years my dream was to work in school lunch, so went to school for quantity food service and I found my element. Since then I have cooked in dormitories, for hay crews, branding crews, dinner parties, school lunch in a rural school, manager of elementary lunch kitchen, my own catering, research station cook and many other opportunities to find a kitchen. I can make any kitchen home and love to do it.
Here is the muffin recipe carried through the years and now has a permanent place in my favorites cookbook. Enjoy them for breakfast or make them small for tea.
Lemon Tree Muffins
1/2 c butter
1/2 c. sugar
1 Tbsp grated lemon peel
3 eggs separated
1 c flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
3 Tbsp lemon juice
1 Tbsp sugar
1 tsp nutmeg
1/4 c chopped nuts

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Stir together flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
  • In separate bowl mix 1Tbsp sugar, nutmeg and nuts. Set aside.
  • Gradually add sugar and lemon peel while beating butter until light and fluffy. Add egg yolks one at a time, mixing well after each.
  • Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form.
  • Add flour mixture alternately with lemon juice with butter mixture just until blended.
  • Fold in egg whites.
  • Line muffin tins with paper baking cups or spray small muffin pans with baking spray.
  • Scoop batter into tins sprinkle with sugar and nut mixture
  • Bake 20 - 25 min.  Let cool slightly before removing from tins.
Summer time on the patio, some iced tea and Lemon Tree muffins.  Yummmm!
